A Walk Down Memory Lane - Indianapolis

The year was 1979 and I was working in the warehouse for Hoosier Photo's Retail division. The warehouse was in the basement of the downtown store, right on Monument Circle in the Circle Tower Office Building. It was a normal day in the warehouse until I spotted one of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen. She was in for a job interview. As it turned out, and little did I know it at the time, my life was soon to be changed forever. She got the job and I guess I came with it. And 33 years, 4 kids and 4 grand babies and here we are. Life is good!

Looking back on 2011

Well we are into 2012 now and looking back on 2011 it was quite a year with a number of highlights:

- Grand babies all over the place:

Allie and Josh had Evie Jo.
Jonathan and Shannon had Wes.
Anna and Rob had Elliot.

- Allie, Josh and Evie move back from Los Angeles

- We finally find out why Lis had been so sick and got the scare of our lives as Ovarian Cancer was a scare after some tests. More tests, etc. and then finally a 3 1/2 hour surgery. 45 minutes in the head surgeon sent his surgical nurse out to tell me "NO cancer"; I felt like a weight (that I had been concealing) had been lifted from me.

God really blessed us in the areas that mean the most in 2011.

Family

Well it was a busy week last week with Allie, Josh and Evie in from LA. But it was a good busy. Got to hold our new granddaughter Evie for the first time. Celebrated (belatedly) Jonathan's birthday. Attended a wedding and reception. Party and the in-laws. Family is such a blessing. And the icing on the cake? Allie, Josh and Evie will be back here for good the first week of September!

Collective Soul - The Band for Everyone

I've been a fan of music for a LONG time. ALL types of music from multiple era's - rock and roll, jazz, fusion, funk, R&B, reggae, soul, blues, etc.

First concert for me was the first US tour for Aerosmith and Bachman Turner Overdrive - WOW I was HOOKED on live music from then on. I have seen a ton of bands since that first one but one that is missing is Collective Soul. Family obligations seemed to always hit when they were in the area. But CD's were in the stores and buy them I did. I listen to them every day on the way to and from work. Hopefully we will be able to make it when they are in Indianapolis this month.

Collective Soul is very unique for a band and for celebrities in general for a lot of reasons. They are very talented musically. Very accomplished compositionaly. Incredible individually. Very fan friendly. Man their parents did a great job and should be so proud of all of them - seriously!

No band has done more to seize any and all forms of media/medium and run with it to reach out to us their fans - CD's concerts, charity work, Web site(s), Facebook, Twitter, email, phone, exclusive videos, etc.

These guys really get us and love us as much as we love them. And here is a story to prove it. We, like many others I'm sure, have had a very hard year and know things will get better but it's going to be a journey; but we will get through it. Well our youngest is also a big Collective Soul fan and budding musician. A couple of weeks ago he celebrated his 13th birthday. I contacted Dean and asked it he would mind sending him an encouraging email and man did he. If you could have SEEN the look on our sons face when he got the email from Dean. And his older siblings were BLOWN AWAY that Dean did this. How many other musicians would bother to do anything like that? Seriously. They are awesome :-)

What more can I say ? Well lots but I don't want to ramble on. They are a band that is great, loves what they do, loves and truly appreciates the fans and all this makes for a great time.

So check out Collective Soul on all the mediums I've mentioned. For example:

Here is how I first hooked up with them electronically:

Good Bye Senator Dodd - Quit

Is he serious ?

Yesterday Senator Dodd, Chairman of the powerful Senate Banking committee, told CNN he had nothing to do with language stuck in the stimulus bill that would gurantee current contracts were honered. Then today is said he did. Latter today he said:

"I agreed reluctantly," Dodd said. "I was changing the amendment because others were insistent."

Please - peer pressure ? For real ? The head of the Senate Banking committee ?

Yesterday he was openly critcal of this. Oh, and we also find out that his largest campaign contributor is - AIG.

Get rid of all jokers like this, send them home; I don't care what party they are in.

JMHO :-)

Miss Him But Life Goes On

I miss my Dad. Lost him 12 years ago; a little over a week before our youngest was born. Lost him in the present but he will always be in my heart and soul :-)

Was my father perfect ? No. And neither am I (obviously). He WAS a great influence however. He tought me more then I could ever imagine and I realize that more as each day goes by. I can only hope to be a little bit like him and that would be great.

He was a good provider and a fun/funny guy. I definitley get my sense of humor from him :-)

He was a veteran of World War II (Navy/gunner and radioman on a patrol/bomber in the Pacific theatre).

He was a Power Systems engineer at General Electric and worked for them his entire life. He was a knowledgable employe and mintored the younger engineers. He was a friend to all.

He was a good husband to my Mom and a good father to my sister and me.

He was great to my wife and he was a wonderful grandfather to our children.

As my father wasn't prefect and neither am I; we all have our pluses and minuses, he was my father. And I'm sure that holds true for your father. So be sure to take the time, while you can. to tell him something good he has imparted on you, something positive he taught you, something funny, etc. Life is short.

He died very unexpectedly but I took comfort in the fact that he knew I love him and that he loved me.

:-)

Week's Almost Over

Yep - tomorrow's Friday and while it's good to be employed it is also nice to have some time off. Profound, eh ?
